1. The focus of learning communities is to share ideas, methods, and concepts in a friendly environment. These ideas are then able to be improved, expanded, or debunked based on others previous knowledge.
2. The benefits of learning communities are the shared ideas and knowledge of multiple peoples with different backgrounds and experiences. The benefits are limitless since each person will be contributing unique experiences and knowledge to the group.
3. Learning communities affect teachers in multiple ways. If an area does not have a strong learning community, teachers will struggle and fight to come up with ideas, concepts, lessons plants etc. by themselves. With a strong learning community collaboration between teachers is much easier and more effective. Ideas are bounced around and better lessons are conjured.
4. Learning communities affect students in multiple ways. If teachers have stronger learning communities than students will have better projects, lessons, etc. Students are also able to collaborate and bounce ideas among each other as well if they have a strong learning community.
5. Components for shared vision in learning community are a clear sense of mission, share a vision of conditions, focus on student learning, goal and results-oriented, collaborate with others, hold share values and beliefs, and commit themselves to continuous improvement.
6. Concepts of this chapter relate to our project because we are collaborating together for a shared idea. We are teaming up for a collective goal. By bouncing ideas between each other we are creating our own small learning community.
I agree that learning communities affect students in many ways. I do think those ways are mostly all positive. Students benefit from teachers great knowledge. They also see how teachers come together and create great things for them and that is a great influence.
ReplyDeleteI feel that although it is good to have shared beliefs on some things that people in learning communities don't have to have the same shared values on everything. Because if everyone believed exactly the same thing then where would the opinions and new ideas come from? I do know that is states it in our book that this is a discipline communities of practice need but in some cases I do not feel that is true.
ReplyDeleteI really like that you mentioned that the benefits are limitless for the contribution for collaboration. This chapter really displayed how important having learning communities truly is and how beneficial they can be for the learning communities.
